Uni-verse is a new social platform for students, launching initially in the Brighton area.
The idea for Uni-verse began with Jon Nice whilst studying at University, during his final year. John identified a gap in the student market for a localised events platform that could create and retain an on-line community with real-time events and innovative offers.
Deciding that the concept for Uni-verse was too good an idea to waste so he began perfecting the business model. Jon soon realised quickly that this project was too big to handle on his own so he approached his friend Sam Verghese. Sam, an entrepreneur throughout his degree having started a successful shipping company at the tender age of 18, was in a position to invest into the concept.
With the two founders of the business in place there was a key ingredient missing. The technology. After thorough research for a suitable partner the pair stumbled across Matt Hagger, Co-Founder of Zkatter and e-Man and a serial entrepreneur with a focus on building small technology businesses from the ground up. After a series of discussions Matt agreed to get involved both as an investor in the business and to head up the product and strategy with an emphasis on Facebook and leveraging the social graph.
Universe was founded in May 2011 and the company incorporated in June.
In just 5 months the team have secured funding via angel Investment and government backed finance built the product and launched in Brighton.
www.Universe.biz launched successfully at midnight on October 3rd 2011 in at an exclusive freshers closing party for 2500 students in Brighton. The night featured headlines acts such as Bluey Robinson, Kano and Lauren Pope from the hugely successful TOWIE series.
This is just the start of our adventure. We have an exciting road map of product features coming and once we feel that we have given the entire student community of Brighton and Sussex the best product they deserve we intend expanding our model across the UK.
Welcome to Uni-verse, chapter 1, and remember: We work . You play.
